What is the new humanitarian pathway in Canada? ›

The pathway will open February 27, 2024. To qualify, applicants must be a child of any age, grandchild, parent, grandparent or sibling of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is living in Canada. Their family member in Canada will also need to agree to support them and help them build their new life in Canada.

Foreign nationals living in Canada with no valid immigration status can submit a claim under humanitarian and compassionate grounds. Examples include people who have: Overstayed their visa. Been excluded from the family class because their sponsor didn't declare their existence or have them examined.
